I have stated that Sea Zen training accumulates chi in the waist chi vessel. In the past 5 thousand years, every "Zen" or meditation or breath-training group that deals with hypogastric (Tan Tian) breathing saw the hypogastric center (Tan Tian), the spot three inches below the navel as the chi spot where we can accumulate chi. This chi spot has been called "Chi Sea" or "Sea of Chi" in oriental medical science. That accumulation of chi is formed at this spot is perceived as a matter of fact throughout the Zen or breath-training groups.
But let's re-examine this matter of fact. Theoretically, because humans walk erect, vessels (the eight essential chi vessels and twelve chi channels) except for the waist chi vessel flow from top to bottom. When chi stops flowing from top to bottom in human body, however, similar to suffocation, humans suffer from all kinds of diseases and disorders because the blockage of chi becomes the cause of every disease and disorder. Accordingly, chi cannot be accumulated in the vessels that flow from top to bottom. But Tan Tian is placed in Conceptive Chi Vessel (abdomen chi vessel) that flows from top to bottom. How can we accumulate chi in Tan Tian without blocking the flow of chi from top to bottom? Accumulating chi at this chi spot is no different from blocking the flow of chi.
Therefore, chi can only be accumulated in the vessel that flows not from top to bottom but around the body (from left to right). The only chi vessel that flows around the body is the waist chi vessel. So the waist chi vessel can be the only storage vessel that can store and accumulate chi in our body. Waist chi vessel is the vessel that wraps the waist, just above the pelvis, in a circular ring shape. Actually, it could be said that this waist vessel is the true Tan Tian where all Zen or meditation or breath-training groups wanted to find for thousand years Sea Zen accumulates chi in this waist chi vessel and makes the body and mind healthier and lead the individual to the transcendent consciousness and nirvana. |
Of course, "Chi Sea" which has been called as the spot of Tan Tian, however, is not so useless because it acts as a watermill for the flow of chi. It certainly helps and strengthens the flow of chi, preventing chi from back-flowing. However, when you try to accumulate chi in this watermill-like chi spot, the accumulated chi stops the watermill and the flow of chi becomes blocked and produces all kinds of side effects.
The only vessel where chi can be stored is the waist chi vessel that flow around the waist. Of course, the waist chi vessel itself is not Tan Tian. But when chi is stored in the waist chi vessel the waist chi vessel itself transforms into Tan Tian (field of chi). This is how waist chi vessel Tan Tian is created. The major goal of Sea Zen training is to create waist chi vessel Tan Tian within two to three months. If you cannot see the result within two to three months, it is not Sea Zen.
Every human has the waist chi vessel Tan Tian when he or she is born. If you look at the belly of a two-year old baby, you will easily see the waist chi vessel Tan Tian. This is the chi source God (the Universe) gives to you when you are born. If you hold the baby under his armpits and move his or her body up and down, you will see the waist chi vessel Tan Tian lapping in the lower part of the belly. This waist chi vessel Tan Tian stores and emits chi. But as you grow old, just as the stored water in the well dries up, the stored chi given by God when you are born will gradually decrease and eventually be lost.
As we use the water from the well, the amount of water will decrease and dry up in the end. Similarly, as we consume chi in the waist chi vessel Tan Tian as we grow old, the stored chi will ultimately dry up in the end. When we use up all the stored chi in the waist chi vessel we die from the lack of chi. As we grow old, the lack of chi also causes many health problems and diseases. As we know, the flow of chi is closely related to the flow of blood. Thus, unstable flow of chi obstructs the flow of blood and this affects the cells, organs and the immune system, causing disorders, diseases weakening the body. Further, unstable flow of chi becomes the initial cause of incurable diseases such as cancer.
Accordingly, in order to have a healthy and youthful life, we must restore and recover used-up chi in the waist chi vessel. This process is called the Accumulation of chi in Sea Zen training. As we accumulate money in the bank account, we must accumulate chi in the waist chi vessel and recuperate the waist chi vessel Tan Tian God gives us when we are born. Even in the old age, when sufficient amount of chi is stored and accumulated in the waist chi vessel, we can see the retrieved the waist chi vessel Tan Tian and we can feel youth and vitality. As you practice Sea Zen, surprisingly you can see the recovering of waist chi vessel Tan Tian with your eyes within 2 or 3 months. How marvelous it is to see this change with 30-40 minutes of practice everyday.
Now, let's talk about how we can accumulate chi in the waist chi vessel?
